Union Hotel is a stylish, recently renovated property praised for its unbeatable mid-Toronto location near Union Station and lively lobby/cafe. While the rooms are consistently described as small and cramped, guests appreciate highly comfortable beds, modern fixtures, and excellent service from attentive staff. The ideal choice for travelers seeking convenience and design, though potential guests should manage expectations regarding room space.
The location really cannot be better, especially if travelling by train. Union station is 4 minute walk away it was perfect to be centralized to make our lives easier. I booked a standard double room and while it was clean, and had everything we needed…it was too small and dark. I would recommend the double room for a solo traveller, it’s a bit too small for a couple. The QR code in the room didn’t have room service but merchandise available for purchase such as branded socks, etc. Some room service items would’ve been great but it’s rare in boutique hotels. The kettle and tea bag’s and local instant coffee packets were awesome. I was a bit disappointed to find the restaurant closed at 10:30PM on a Friday, we were hoping for a night cap without leaving the hotel. That being said, the food and drink in the hotel cafe was absolutely amazing during daytime hours and the decor and lounge space in the lobby was extremely comfortable and relaxing with several beautiful books to flip through. I would stay again but next time in a larger room. Service at check in and check out from two separate girls on Feb 19 and Feb 21 was excellent.
The rooms are very clean, updated but SMALL! Beds are very comfortable, bathroom small but well appointed with modern fixtures. No wait for hot water. Lobby and bar nice and welcoming. Walking distance to several upscale eateries. Would score all 5's but for the room size.
Stayed in this hotel which is near Union Station during a layover between my flight and VIA train, and the experience was convenient and comfortable. The room was compact but well-equipped with all the essentials, making it perfect for a short stay. The location is unbeatable for travelers needing quick access to Union Station, and the overall value for the price was excellent. While the room size might feel small for extended stays, it’s ideal for layovers or short visits. Highly recommended for travelers seeking efficiency and convenience.
The location is incredibly convenient, just a few minutes’ walk from Union station. When we checked in, they didn’t have the king room we originally booked, but Adrian handled it so well and upgraded us to a king suite. Honestly… thank you, because WOW. The suite was gorgeous, beautifully designed, spacious, and felt very high-end without being stuffy. The bed deserves its own shoutout, hands down the most comfortable hotel bed I’ve ever slept on. I’m still thinking about it (and seriously wondering where that mattress is from ?). The large rainfall shower was lovely, and the robe was truly chef’s kiss. Our stay included breakfast and everything looked delicious. We went with the banana bread French toast and it did not disappoint. The overall vibe of the hotel is trendy, cool, and thoughtfully designed, from the lobby and lounge areas to the room itself. Adrian and the rest of the staff were friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful throughout our stay. Would absolutely stay here again, a perfect choice if you appreciate great design, comfort, and a central location.
Ex Strathacona hotel now the rev-vamped UNION HOTEL. Beautiful, modern, comfortable lobby! Great cafe with very good food (had the chicken parm with vegetables). Small rooms however wonderfully comfortable beds and great shower! Lots of room in the lobby to set up with your laptop and work. Nice to see experienced employees that used to work at the Strathacona now at the Union hotel. Would definitely stay here again!
What a fantastic Hotel to visit! I really enjoyed my stay! The room was cozy and swanky! The food was excellent! The Gym was full of Technogym Equipment, my favourite brand! I look forward to my next stay here! Highly recommend to other travellers looking to stay downtown with a luxury experience!
Room was nice. They are a bit stingy though. I felt a little drawn back when checking in on New Year’s Eve when they thought it was best to remind me that “not everyone at the hotel is there for celebrating” and that they have a no noise policy beginning at 10 pm. This was said although I only stayed there because I wished to go to the waterfront fireworks show. Also, when collecting the incidental deposit, it was stated that check out is at 11 am and that we should ensure we had ample time to check out because someone will come to the room after to ensure everything is good. I have never heard this at any previous hotels.
Nice, clean, but small rooms. Comfy beds. Nice small bathroom with large shower. We did find that the lobby area had a very strong aromatherapy smell, possibly eucalyptus. It was a little too much for our taste. Staff were friendly. Restaurant was ok. Coffees and pastries were good. Location is perfect. 5 minutes walking to: union station, Roy Thompson Hall and King St streetcar. Price was great for the location and compared to other options nearby. Overall, nice, newly renovated, clean hotel. We would book here again.
We had a truly wonderful stay at Union Hotel! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and well taken care of. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and everything—from the rooms to the amenities—was top-notch. A special shoutout to Cecilia, who went above and beyond to ensure our experience was smooth and enjoyable. Her hospitality and helpfulness made a lasting impression and added a personal touch to our visit. We wholeheartedly recommend Union Hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and memorable stay. We’ll definitely be coming back! — Billy Marbil
I would not recommend this hotel for any professional. The wifi is not secure. The rooms are not set up to work it is a very small foldable desk and uncomfortable chair. They do not offer any room service so everytime you need something you have to leave your room. The rooms are clean but really low level of service. I have 2 bad nights of sleep as it is extremely noisy. You can find a better option nearby.
