The Union Hotel is a stylish boutique hotel in a prime downtown Toronto location, steps from Union Station and offering easy access to major attractions. Guests consistently praise its welcoming atmosphere, helpful staff, and convenient amenities, though room sizes are noted as compact. Recent reviews highlight a strong commitment to sustainability and a focus on local Toronto experiences.
I originally booked the Union hotel because it was a small, independent and locally-owned boutique stay with a strong commitment to sustainability. I wasn't disappointed! From check-in to check-out our time was comfortable and relaxing. The lobby area is fantastic, welcoming, and comfortable whether you need to get some work done, or just enjoy a snack and glass of wine after exploring Toronto. All the employees were super friendly and great with local recommendations. I love the local art throughout, the nods to Toronto's textile history, Canadian products, plastic-free efforts, and overall their commitment to Toronto, Canada, and the environment shines. You can't beat the location just steps away from the metro, trams, and iconic sights. I recommend booking with the breakfast included, if you can. It is a really top tier breakfast, you can order off the menu from a selection of items (vegetarian-friendly), and a coffee or juice is included. Sure, the rooms are a little small, but hey it's Toronto, and they are actually generous compared to some of the shoeboxes you get otherwise. The beds are super comfortable and the bathrooms are well stocked. Bring your ear plugs, it is most often the other guests coming in late that bothered us than city noise, but noise can travel.
TLDR REVIEW: The location is great. However, you can get everything and anything else from different hotels nearby for a much better value. - The sink's design means you can't get full pressure by turning it on normally, you have to turn it to the side, then turn it back to the middle. - Little to no room in the bathroom for toiletries. - Room doors VERY heavy. - No table/room/anything in the room for my wife and I to just sit and have food. - USB charger on one of the bedside outlets didn't work. - TINY garbage cans in the room. - The cleaner in the front lobby was awesome when my wife left her sweater at a table, by the time she got back down, it was already in a bag at the front desk. - The sheets were either: HEAVY duvet or PAPER THIN sheets. No in between. - The elevators were terrifyingly loud any time they would pass floors 7-8.
Union Hotel is a fantastic stay in the heart of Toronto. The location at 60 York Street is excellent. Incredibly convenient, especially if you’re arriving by train or planning to explore downtown. The staff were very helpful and welcoming throughout my stay. My room was on the smaller side, but it was very clean, thoughtfully designed, and well appointed. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, which made for a great night’s sleep. One of the highlights was the café and sitting area. It’s a lovely space to relax, and the coffee was excellent. I also really appreciated that they offered gluten-free breakfast options, which made the stay even easier and more enjoyable. Overall, Union Hotel is a stylish, comfortable, and convenient choice for a Toronto stay. I would definitely recommend it.
I booked the Swanky Queen and found it to be the perfect size for two people. Loved that they provided cups for cold drinks as well as mugs, and that the coffee was drip and not instant. Bed and pillows were comfortable. The TV pulls out so you can angle it as you like. Full size shampoo/conditioner/body wash/soap bottles helped us packed lighter. Hair dryer was a bit weak but did the job. The mini fridge is empty, so it's actually usable. I do wish the room had a luggage rack. There was a tiny drawer in the closet that could handle one luggage, but that's about it. So the other person would be forced to lay it on the ground. The AC is fairly loud whenever it was actively running. The rooms are clean but I did notice certain things already looking worn down. Considering it's a new remodel, it's something to be concerned about for the future. Housekeeping appears to come by daily to replace any used items such as towels, coffee and cups. Except for the bath robes. The only major downside was that outside noise was very audible. There's frequently people revving up their engines in the streets downtown, and you'd be hearing this late at night and past midnight. We stayed the weekend where we could hear people partying as well. The food from the lobby cafe was a bit overpriced and the quality seems to depend a lot on the item. I liked the salmon avocado toast, but the fried calamari was very very average. The coffee however was excellent, and it was very convenient to have it right at the lobby. I grabbed a coffee pretty much everyday.
Our experience at the Union Hotel surpassed all expectations. We were treated like royalty from the moment we entered. The staff were extremely welcoming and accommodating. The venue, including the lobby and the rooms were pristine, modern and chic. The location was excellent to walk about or to catch the subway. Would definitely recommend this hotel for your next stay. Thanks to everyone at the Union Hotel who made us feel so welcomed.
The location really cannot be better, especially if travelling by train. Union station is 4 minute walk away it was perfect to be centralized to make our lives easier. I booked a standard double room and while it was clean, and had everything we needed…it was too small and dark. I would recommend the double room for a solo traveller, it’s a bit too small for a couple. The QR code in the room didn’t have room service but merchandise available for purchase such as branded socks, etc. Some room service items would’ve been great but it’s rare in boutique hotels. The kettle and tea bag’s and local instant coffee packets were awesome. I was a bit disappointed to find the restaurant closed at 10:30PM on a Friday, we were hoping for a night cap without leaving the hotel. That being said, the food and drink in the hotel cafe was absolutely amazing during daytime hours and the decor and lounge space in the lobby was extremely comfortable and relaxing with several beautiful books to flip through. I would stay again but next time in a larger room. Service at check in and check out from two separate girls on Feb 19 and Feb 21 was excellent.
The rooms are very clean, updated but SMALL! Beds are very comfortable, bathroom small but well appointed with modern fixtures. No wait for hot water. Lobby and bar nice and welcoming. Walking distance to several upscale eateries. Would score all 5's but for the room size.
Stayed in this hotel which is near Union Station during a layover between my flight and VIA train, and the experience was convenient and comfortable. The room was compact but well-equipped with all the essentials, making it perfect for a short stay. The location is unbeatable for travelers needing quick access to Union Station, and the overall value for the price was excellent. While the room size might feel small for extended stays, it’s ideal for layovers or short visits. Highly recommended for travelers seeking efficiency and convenience.
The location is incredibly convenient, just a few minutes’ walk from Union station. When we checked in, they didn’t have the king room we originally booked, but Adrian handled it so well and upgraded us to a king suite. Honestly… thank you, because WOW. The suite was gorgeous, beautifully designed, spacious, and felt very high-end without being stuffy. The bed deserves its own shoutout, hands down the most comfortable hotel bed I’ve ever slept on. I’m still thinking about it (and seriously wondering where that mattress is from ?). The large rainfall shower was lovely, and the robe was truly chef’s kiss. Our stay included breakfast and everything looked delicious. We went with the banana bread French toast and it did not disappoint. The overall vibe of the hotel is trendy, cool, and thoughtfully designed, from the lobby and lounge areas to the room itself. Adrian and the rest of the staff were friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful throughout our stay. Would absolutely stay here again, a perfect choice if you appreciate great design, comfort, and a central location.
It is an adorable hotel very conveniently located close to Union Station! The decor is so cute, the gym is nice, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Super showers. Comfy beds. Great value for money! Do yourself a favour, have the smoked salmon avocado toast for breakfast.
